Khaled Mohammed Al-Mutlaq, born in 1981, is a Saudi artist and calligrapher. He holds an official Ijazah in Arabic calligraphy and a professional evaluation certificate from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in collaboration with Misk Art Institute.
Khaled’s love for art began during his early school years. He was captivated by the formation of Arabic letters, particularly during art classes where he closely observed the intricate calligraphy written by his teacher. Inspired by the beauty of letterforms and nature, he explored various visual arts including oil painting and ceramics.
His artistic journey formally started in 1997 when he joined Abha’s Al-Muftaha Village, a vibrant hub for Saudi visual artists. There, he learned from leading artists, attended art workshops, and participated in group exhibitions that paved his path toward professionalism.
One of his early breakthroughs was incorporating Arabic calligraphy into visual compositions. Under the mentorship of the late artist Abdulhalim Radwi, Khaled experimented by blending letters with abstract forms, which marked the beginning of his unique style in "Hurufiyya" art.
In 2019, he led an Arabic calligraphy workshop in London during a cultural event hosted by the Saudi Ministry of Culture. In 2022, he won first place in the International Falcons Club Art Contest in Riyadh. That same year, he began exhibiting a wide range of calligraphic artworks at Art Vision Gallery.
Khaled’s work seamlessly merges traditional Arabic letters with bold modern compositions. His pieces reflect a balance between color, form, and cultural identity. Through his art, he builds an emotional narrative where each element—letter, shape, or hue—contributes to a harmonious visual experience.
With a heart captivated by letters and color, Khaled continues to explore new artistic horizons. His journey, rooted in passion and enriched by culture, reflects a deep commitment to blending heritage with innovation.
His early days at Al-Muftaha Village shaped his creative identity, where he was inspired by leading Saudi artists and where he first introduced Arabic letters into visual arts.
Khaled’s works are now part of prestigious collections across government ministries, corporations, and among private art collectors. His style is celebrated for its harmony and emotional depth, making his pieces stand out in any exhibition.
His vision is not just to create, but to leave an artistic legacy that bridges past and present, East and West, tradition and abstraction—all through the elegance of the Arabic letter.
